Upward Christian Women’s Job Corps (CWJC) was started in 2014 in response to the growing number of women continuously needing assistance paying bills and looking for handouts. We found that many women lacked skills in numerous areas to break the cycle of poverty. UPWARD CWJC provides a faith-based, holistic approach which addresses all areas of a woman’s life.
With the support of trained volunteers and staff, utilizing financial contributions from supporters, and guidance from the Board of Directors, the Upward Christian Women's Job Corps® is committed to assisting the women we serve to become self-sufficient by equipping them with essential educational, employment, and life skills.
- We offer free 13-week sessions that assist in focusing and developing the strengths of each student
- Life skills focus on time management, money management, conflict resolution, anger management and healthy relationships.
- The Jobs for Life curriculum focuses on matching their abilities and passions with job availability in Jackson, on finding the right job to meet both short-term and long-term goals, and on being a valuable employee. Participants also work on building their computer skills.
- Through our Mentorship each woman is matched with a mentor who meets with her once a week to encourage, listen and guide in problem solving and to pray. Each student is assigned a mentor, and each mentor is committed to a one-on-one relationship to help build the student's self-esteem, self-confidence and skills essential to success in life and work.
