Upward Dream Center is a Christ-Centered Community Organization Dedicated to Empowering the Spiritual, Educational, Health and Vocational Development of Youth and their Families.
UPWARD's mission is to instill moral, educational and christian values into today's youth and to partner in encouraging and supportive ways with their families. Simply put, our mission is to love in positive and supportive ways. UPWARD's desire is to demonstrate this principal in practical ways in order to build trust and unity in the community, thus ensuring a positive and healthy future for the next generations. How Can You Help: - Dance Like David Studio - Construction Work The children at our center express themselves through ministering in dance and have asked to have a dance room. The Dance Like David Studio will facilitate practices for our student ministry teams with childlren aging from 4 to 18 years of age. Volunteers are needed to assist in hanging sheetrock, installing ceiling, and flooring for dance room. - Dream Big Education Center - Computers Needed We are in need of 10 up to date computers that will allow students to participate in classes such as website building, resume preparation, ACT preparatory sessions, Research Projects and more. Cost of each individual computer is $600. Feel free to donate computers or money to purchase computer. - MEAD Hall - Tile Purchase/Installation Our kids cafe' was given the name Mead Hall by our Teen Leaders. They chose this name because of the historical meaning that Warriors met and ate in a place called the Mead before going out to battle or for simplying fellowshiping and celebrating. Everything is complete in Mead Hall but the laying of tiles. Ceramic Tile needs to be dontated and installed on the floors for our little Warriors to enjoy a comfortable environment while eating. During the months of June and July in 2012 we fed over 10,000 meals alone. Children are fed Monday-Friday year round. Project budget if paid is $2,986; monetary donation or labor greatly appreciated. - Dream Kidz After Care - Tutors Needed Children come in for homework assistnace on school days throughout the school year. Several students are struggling in the areas of Math and Reading and are in need of tutoring. Volunteers will be assigned a student(s) to tutor and a day/time convenient for the volunteer will be scheduled for tutoring. - Robert E. Bell Music Program - Mentors Needed The chidren of our community are extremely talented and express interest in music. Mentors are needed to teach piano, drums, guitar lessons for children. Volunteers are needed to assist in purchasing in instruments and mentors are needed to provide chidren with music lessons. Volunteers will be assigned a student(s) to tutor and a day/time convenient for the volunteer will be schedule for mentorship. - Backpack Meal Program - Food Needed We currently provide over 200 children with a healthy, convenient meal for the weekend. Children are provided with a backpack twice a year and refill bags every Friday of the year. Refill bags are a gallon sized ziploc bag that conatains 2-individual cereal boxes, 2- microwaveable shelf entrees, 2-individual shelf milk, 2-individual fruit servings(fruit cup or juice such as caprisun) and a few healthy snacks. The food in the ziploc bag provides each child with 2 meals for 2 days the children are able to prepare for themselves. In 2011 we provided over 10,000 meals to children in the Southwest Jackson Community. Meals can be packed and brought to UPWARD or monetary donations are accepted. The cost to prepare a bag for each child is $3 if you would like to donate. - Christmas Giveaway - Gifts Needed Each child that participates in our program receives a Gift Bag that usually includes a pair of pajamas, Coat/Jacket, gloves/mittens, winter hat, restaurant gift card and a gallon ziploc bag filled with goodies such as Bibles, scented body wash/lotion/spray, jewelry, hot wheel cars, uno cards, barbie dolls, small puzzles, comb/brush, scarf, toe socks, cool erasers/pencils, fruit snacks(gummies), microwave popcorn, coloring book, word puzzle, crayon, markers, nail polish, stretchy hairbands, colorful pens, diaries, colorful journals, watch, baseball/snapback cap. Items can be shipped or delivered to Operation: UPWARD, 1000 Winter Street, Jackson, MS 39204. If located in the greater Jackson area we will pick items up. Large Items Needed
